It has become an asset to the village, offering companionship and a contact point for people living in the area while enjoying delicious homemade cakes, teas, and coffee in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere with ‘Cake for Breakfast’ as our mantra!
The Café is run, and cakes baked, by volunteers. It is hard work for those involved but great fun and great appreciation and support is given by the customers who enjoy this community facility.
On the first Friday of each month an ‘Exchange Stage’ is held during the café hours where people can bring items they do not want and take anything they do! No money involved! All we ask is that any unclaimed items are taken home!
On the second Friday of the month the Café hosts the Tingewick Village Hall Improvement Fund Draw when one prize of £20 and two of £10 are drawn.
The Café also holds two Craft Fairs and Saturday cafés; one in Spring/Summer and one at Christmas to coincide with the lighting of the village Christmas tree and Carol Singing. We also host the tea tent at the the annual Village Fete.
It is also a great opportunity to give financial support to the Village Hall. Since opening in 2015, the Café has raised over £35,000 towards the running and improvement of the hall.
Other local organisations who have benefited are Tingewick Pre-School, Roundwood School, Tingewick Scouts, Tingewick Football Club, Townsend Pond refurbishment, St Mary Magdalen Church and the local food bank.
Support is also given to many national charities, including Macmillan Coffee Morning, Brain Tumour Research, Comic Relief, Sports Relief, and Children in Need, along with many others.
The weekly menu board is posted on Tingewick Community Café Facebook page every Thursday afternoon for customers' perusal.
Please follow our Facebook page and come and Eat Cake for Breakfast one Friday – you will be most welcome!
